AP Art Assignment: An Interupted Life – For this project you will be asked to think like a cinematographer. You should spend time observing, photographing and sketching out everyday still lifes. Not the still lifes that are set up for paintings but the ones that exist all around you: the socks balled up by your bed, the dishes in your sink, the book laying on the couch. You are then to think of a story of someone who has left something in the middle, this could be a plumber who quits her job or a person who leaves the house and gets lost, never to return. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a depressing or dramatic story but it is one that you will want to consider in how you render the scene. What kind of lighting will you use? What type of materials best support the mood you are attempting to convey?

AP Art Assignment: You will make a drawing that combines observational drawing and some sort of fabrication. This fabrication can come from combining 2 things observed in an unusual fashion. The drawing should seem like one drawing in the end.

2D Art Assignment: Your final assignment is to use drawing and possibly another media (collage, painting, stamping…) to combine at least 2 objects that normally don’t belong together or are in a strange relationship (ie. The relative scale is different than normal).
- · At least one of the objects should be from observation. For instance you might find a toy car and draw a toy car with a portrait of your dog on it or with something completely made up in the back. This should be something you can bring to class and should not be a cell phone or anything flat.
- · You should also include text of some sort. This text doesn’t have to make sense in terms of what it says or how it relates to the image but should be a strong part of the composition and be applied in a way that makes sense to the image. To apply the text consider: cut letters, stamped letters, stenciling, image transfer (ask me, I’ll explain), or written letters.
